Q:  Dear Dave,

I have been looking for some smoked coban peppers from Guatemala.  Do you know where I could purchase some?  Do you know of a good substitute?  Would Meco Brown chipotle pods be a good substitute?

A:  Hello Dave:

To my knowledge, no one sells these.  The chipotle would be a good substitute, but you can approximate the cobans by buying whole piquins and smoking them yourself.
